D'zyl 5k1 is one of those artists who makes work that feels like it was tailored to people just like me. His new album 5xtra ,out now, is more of that but also reflects the freedom who has already climbed mountaintops and is now free to just make fun music with his friends and express himself thru bars and melody as often as he likes.

It's funny, raunchy, nerdy, vulnerable honest melodic music - in other words his work is kind of irresistible if your heart is not entirely hardened yet which for some people I understand, it's too late. But seriously folks the beats from Mozart Jones, Ac3 Beats, Eugene O'Neil, Mason and all the rest bang. The album is fun as D'zyl toggles rapidly between rapsodizing about being a dad, being a nerd, being horny, being XTRA one 3.5 minute moment at a time when he's not nailing these straightforward concept songs about identity, sexuality, confidence and other relatable subject areas.

His second album in 6 months, this album has a bouncy momentum as D'zyl also continues to showcase his ear for beats and collabs- I'm particularly impressed with iEllis on his several songs on the record and of course I'm biased as I guest on track 2. I always appreciate the emotionally deeper idea he tries to get at on the final song of his albums and this one is no different in that regard.

I think what I'm trying to get at is his albums are like buffets: there's a lot of meal for many palettes. It's got some heart, some dick, some bangers, some soft r & b -infused singles like "Let Yourself Win", some nerdy, some I.E., some get the idea. I'll be shocked if you don't find something here to love.
