AMERIKKKAN MUSCLE II: THE EXTRA MILE – MONTAE MONTANA
Updated: Nov 12, 2020

Tone One of Socialeyes produced this project and man…he’s like a more subtle incarnation of the Dust Brothers. I love these beats. The songs are dope and the album deploys them well, the project balances melody and rapping in novel and exciting ways throughout. It bears repeat listening.
Montana Montae has a smooth yet raw ass voice and he spits about everything from politics to life. He tackles poverty, death, toxic masculinity and hip-hop culture with his smart but straightforward and deftly delivered lyrics.
The piece is bracketed by a famous AOC congressional hearing questioning with Tone's beats cleverly adjusting with the rhythm of the dialogue. It’s post-modern but also classically boom-bappy enough to be accessible to a wide spectrum of hip-hop head I think. Check it out.
