BARS ON BARS CYPHER - THEEZ, BOZO, TWOCEES, SMOKE MAJOR
I dug this recent cypher from Eyekon TV with a beat by Ai with a diverse and powerful cast of L.A.-area originated MCs like Bozo, Twocees and Smoke Major. These cats run the gamut from barsy to gangster in between and this beat is a vibey heater.
I didn't expect to get so moved by a cypher verse, Theez usually goes ham and hilarious on them, but on this occasion we're witnessing the convergence of two phenomena: Theez getting better every year at writing to fit a song perfectly as opposed to just showing off and Theez maturing with age. The smooth but reasonable sadness Thesis alternates here between aphorisms and half-hearted braggadocio all while riding the beat flawlessly - it's a window into a moment in life, of someone who is executing at a high level almost not trying at all. He's still spitting spitting but it's the bars he's not filling, the silences he's leaving, that are making a statement to me; the restraint being shown reflects our growing understanding of the weight of our steps. It's true and laconic, mournful and rhythmically detached- poetry, if you will.
The rest of this cypher is solid, great beat and camera work from the 562 cypher team.
