MORE APPROPRIATE - ROKEM
Rokem, like a happy warrior, marches into a new era.
The first time I bumped his new album More Appropriate I was like, “wait who the fuck IS this?” about not only the rappers but the production – Rokem never sits still; I should stop being so surprised.
The second time I listened to I appreciated the tight flows and hard bars of Raj and Taj Austin as well as noticed old friends like Asimoff, Don’t Sleep (of 3rd Person with Rokem) and Theez (formerly a CLDMKR with Rokem) bringing their own new twists to collaborating with Rokem. This album is bright, tight with tons of energy, bravado and momentum. Rokem has a spectrum of chill and hard here but the balance of the album is on the aggressive side in my opinion and given the vibes of his new featured artists here, why not?
The instrumentals and the songs are well-balanced and they pop. You can still freestyle to this Rokem tape but don’t be threatened when his homies interrupt throughout- just listen.
