NO APOLOGIES – OH GOSH LEOTUS / CAM ARCHER
The new Archer/Leotus EP is like an exercise in efficiency – how much ground in modern hip-hop genres that please the ear can we cover in a brief 10ish track album where no song drags on too long? The answer was a freakin’ lot.
Archer has albums that are harrowing emotional tales of personal discovery and growth but this one has the lowest stakes since El Guapo EP and I appreciate that. It feels like art made organically with some real human moments and some just bangin’ hip-hop moments and much in between.
Leotus has been letting us into his process throughout the current global crisis through his various social media videos depicting him in his studio so hearing this album where he gets to fully realize those processes for quality songs is a delight. This album is solid, banging, catchy, deep enough, light enough, and to be frank flawlessly executed by two established master craftsmen and collaborators so be sure to get you a slice.
