P.T.S.D / TOOK ME – THE THOUGHT / LV.AGN
Thought’s new music video reminds me of the best, most depressing indie rock of my early 20s. For me, much of his work is like Conor Oberst’s “Bright Eyes” project where it’s easy to lose how good the music is in how powerful the emotional expression is.
Boom-bap is the language this lo-fi indie movie starts in and by the second half a more groovy atmoshphere is established, both visually and audibly. The Joe Rogan and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest samples are well-deployed.
As he often does, Thought brings pointed commentary to psychological health aspects of modern life that most people just take for granted.
Anyone who weighs art by the choices it reflects and the follow-through
behind those choices has to appreciate how videographer TRIIIPHOP gives these songs their proper weight.
