PUSHA T / LAURYN HILL - Coming Home
This new Pusha T/Lauryn Hill song is bright, shiny, new and well-executed but as usual Pusha T’s post-Clipse ego and writing limitations make it feel kind of incongruent. Lauryn is talking about you can do anything and Pusha is talkin’ about “while you were broke I was rich, while you were whack I was dope, while you were dumb I was smart”. And it’s fine, dude can spit. It’s fine. Just felt like a bit of a missed opportunity for something more in harmony with itself. It’s funny, No Malice took more of Push’s style with him in his solo work than Pusha did of Malice’s in my opinion – Pusha used to say wise humble shit on Clipse albums and since he seems more about embracing his fallen angel persona. And that’s all fine, but in a moment like this I was hoping his pen would rise a little higher, just my opinion.
